A LITTLE PREP GOES A LONG WAY — 02 MIN

Before you
plug in.

A few small checks make your first setup smoother and help you avoid common security mistakes. Find a quiet moment, use a computer or phone you trust, and keep the recovery card nearby.

✓
Check the package

Look for signs of tampering and confirm that the device and accessories match your order. If anything seems unusual, pause and contact the seller through a verified channel.

✓
Choose your own connection

Use a trusted computer or mobile device and a direct USB connection. Avoid public computers, unknown adapters, and shared networks when creating or restoring a wallet.

✓
Make a private workspace

Set aside paper and a pen. Your recovery seed is a backup to your wallet, not a password to type into a website. Keep cameras, cloud notes, and other people away from it.

THE WALKTHROUGH — 10–15 MIN

Make it yours,
one step at a time.

YOUR CHECKLIST0 / 5

Five simple steps. Check them off as you go.

01

CONNECT

Plug in your device

Connect your Trezor to your trusted computer or phone using a compatible cable. Follow any instructions displayed on the device. If a prompt asks you to visit a web address, independently verify it before continuing. A new device may need its firmware installed; this is a normal part of setup when performed through official Trezor software.

Keep the device connected while an update completes. Do not disconnect it during installation, and do not follow instructions from pop-ups or unsolicited messages. If your screen shows a warning you do not understand, stop and consult official support rather than guessing.

02

INSTALL

Open the official app

Download Trezor Suite only from the official Trezor website. Check the spelling of the domain yourself and use a bookmark for future visits. You can choose the desktop application or the supported web experience. Do not install wallet software from an ad, a message, an app file sent by someone, or a search result that looks suspicious.

Open Suite and follow its on-screen prompts to connect and recognize your device. Your device display is the trusted source for important confirmations. If the app and device ever show conflicting details, stop before approving anything and verify the situation with official documentation.

03

BACK UP

Create your recovery backup

Choose to create a new wallet and carefully follow the backup instructions. Your device may display a recovery seed, sometimes called a backup or recovery phrase. Write each word in the exact order on the supplied recovery card, checking your spelling as you go. Some models ask you to confirm words on the device.

This phrase is the master backup for your wallet. Anyone who sees it may be able to access your funds, so never photograph it, save it in a file, send it in a message, or type it into a website or support chat. Trezor support will never ask you to reveal it. If you already have a wallet, do not share its existing seed with a setup tool.

04

PROTECT

Set a PIN and optional passphrase

If prompted, choose a PIN that is difficult to guess and enter it using the device's own secure flow. Avoid birthdays, repeated digits, and anything you reuse elsewhere. Store no PIN or recovery words in a place accessible to others. The device may use a changing keypad layout; follow its display rather than assuming a fixed pattern.

An optional passphrase can provide an additional layer, but it also creates another secret that must be remembered exactly. A typo can open a different wallet. Learn how the feature works in official documentation before enabling it, and never treat it as a replacement for safely storing your recovery backup.

05

VERIFY

Confirm, then explore carefully

Complete any requested backup check, then review your wallet in Trezor Suite. Add supported accounts only when you are ready. Before receiving assets, confirm the receiving address on your Trezor device screen—not only on your computer or phone. That check helps protect you if a device is compromised by malicious software.

Start with an amount and action you understand. Keep firmware and software current through official channels, and revisit the device's on-screen confirmations whenever you sign or approve a transaction. Self-custody means you are responsible for protecting both your device and the backup that can restore it.

THE RULE THAT MATTERS MOST

Your recovery seed
is yours alone.

Write it on paper and store it somewhere private and protected from damage. Never enter it into a website, app, computer, or phone—even if the page looks official or someone claims to be helping. A request for your recovery seed is a major warning sign.

PRIVATE BACKUP

Never share these words.
Not with support. Not online. Not ever.

01

Verify every address

Before approving a receive or transaction, compare the complete address on your computer with the address shown on your Trezor screen.

02

Pause under pressure

Scammers use urgency and fear. Take a breath, close unexpected messages, and navigate to official resources yourself.

03

Keep a safe backup

Protect your written recovery backup from theft, loss, fire, and water. Consider secure storage suited to your needs.

NEED A HAND?

When in doubt,
pause and verify.

Setup screens can differ between Trezor models and software versions. For model-specific instructions, troubleshooting, and the latest supported features, consult Trezor's official knowledge base. Never let a stranger remote into your computer or handle your recovery seed.
